Best Small Towns To Visit In WNC In October 2024
Hello everyone! Hope everyone is safe. As you normally would know some of the best towns to visit in Fall in North Carolina, are: "Blowing Rock, Black Mountain, Chimney Rock", etc... Because as you might have seen in the news all the WNC area has been really devastated by the storm Helene. I'm so sorry for everyone who has lost their loved ones, their homes, their pets, etc... Blowing Rock, NC
Blowing Rock is a village in western North Carolina on scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s named after The Blowing Rock, a formation with sweeping views of peaks, forests and the Johns River Gorge. Blowing Rock Art & History Museum has regional artwork. The vast Moses H. Cone Memorial Park is a preserved country estate with a 1901 mansion. A trail from Annie Cannon Gardens leads to Glen Burney and Glen Marie waterfalls. The leaves in the Blowing Rock area typically start changing color in early to mid-October, with peak foliage occurring from mid-October to early November. The area's diverse plant and tree life means that the colors change at different times, so the season can last a long time.
Highlands, NC
Highlands is an incorporated town in Macon County in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Located on a plateau in the southern Appalachian Mountains, within the Nantahala National Forest, it lies mostly... The Highlands area has hundreds of waterfalls, including Whitewater Falls, the tallest in the eastern United States at 411 feet. Dry Falls is another popular waterfall where visitors can walk safely behind the falls. The area has many hiking trails for all levels, including the Whiteside Mountain Trail, a short loop that offers views and is home to peregrine falcons and wildflowers.
Hayesville, NC
Hayesville is a town in Clay County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 311 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clay County. Hayesville was built on the site of the former Cherokee town of Quanassee, which was located on a trading path that connected the Cherokee to the Carolinas and Georgia.The town was named after State Senator George W. Hayes, who won the election to represent the area by promising to introduce legislation to form a separate county seat.
Sylva, NC
Sylva is an incorporated town located in central Jackson County, in the Plott Balsam Mountains of Western North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town had a total population of 2,588. It is the county seat, taking over the role from nearby Webster in 1913. With elevations exceeding 5,000 feet, the 1,400-acre Pinnacle Park, owned by the town of Sylva, has some of the most challenging hiking trails in all of Western North Carolina. Jackson County is proclaimed NC's Trout Capital®, and Sylva is a major part of the county's famed WNC Fly Fishing Trail®.
Saluda, NC
Saluda is a city in Polk and Henderson counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The population was 713 at the 2010 census. Saluda what is known for? The invention of the railroad and the challenges surrounding transportation in the mountains resulted in the creation of the Saluda Grade. Even today, this piece of local history is still known as the steepest standard-gauge mainline railway grade in the United States and can drop 600 feet in less than a mile.
